Like I give a shit...let's just be honest! :) I hate football--I am not into organized sports in any way. But some of our friends are coming over, and I am super excited to see them all. Everyone always has parties--I always listen to them talk about it, but gettting invited to one of these exclusive VIP events proves a difficult task! So we are bringing the party here! ;)
So we are two weeks into the semester. Here is the school update:
1. Teaching is always a thrill. I really love teaching juniors and seniors only. Freshmen are so young--and they smell. I love the insights my students have and the discussions we are having so far. Just wait until we watch Barbara Walters interview Cher back in the 1980s. ;)
2. My sociology class--lordy. Love/hate. Love it because I feel like I finally get qualitative research. Hate it because I am having a hard time getting a site for my field research--yep, you heard that right. ;) I am trying to get in on a mom's group. So far-not going well
The March deadlines loom...plan of study, dissertation, comps. Joy.to.the.world.
The good part? Writing this blog and being a tech saavy, hippy-dippy mom has been very inspirational. I have decided to broadly study motherhood and technology--how does the use of technology help shape our identities as parents, and how do we use technology to build mothering communities that may take us away from medicalized mothering. And to think, it all started with this tiny blog... ;)
E is a toddler--oh what a lovely time. She has a gaggle of teeth coming in, she is fiercly independent, she loves the word no, massages my hand when she is tired, dances to music, screams "doggy" and runs to jack and scout--as you can imagine, they are not the biggest fans. ;) And I continue to exist and somehow not crack. The Moms around me think I am a bad mom because I put her in daycare, go to school and work, and work a few nights a week. The people in grad school think I am incapable of doing work and am not committed. What is a mom to do?? LOL!
Well, for one, she is to blog. Second, she is to get into a face-to-face mom group to see what like-minded others do.
My newest idea? Do we have a grad student mom support group at UWM? If we don't, should we start one? ;)
